Operating Income

Friends of Scouting

In order for the Allohak Council to operate on a monthly basis, it has to meet its budget.  The Boy Scouts have fiscal responsibilities just as any family or business.  The council must raise 100% of its operating budget locally. Friends of Scouting is 28% of the councils funding.  Friends of Scouting is generated from the council staff, board of directors, business community, district volunteers and through the families of the Scouts who receive a quality Scouting program in the seventeen counties served by the Allohak Council.

Units benefit from Friends of Scouting.  Without the support of Friends of Scouting, there would be no camps, Scout Shop, recruiting materials, insurance, Council resources such as training videos, training and program literature or a staff to help administer the Scouting program.

Friends of Scouting supports programs, facilities, staff, communications and much more to help thousands of parents and leaders to effectively deliver the Scouting program. The Allohak Council will spend over $190 per registered youth member above and beyond the national registration fees and local unit expenses to maintain the needed support for the Scouting program through the community.

Support Scouting today with a Friends of Scouting gift.  Your support is crucial to the delivery of quality Scouting programs in the Allohak Council.  You can make your gift by sending a check, using your credit card or pledge your support and the council will send you reminder statements on a schedule of your choosing.

Fall Product Sales – Popcorn

The fall product sale occurs every October featuring Camp Master Gourmet Popcorn.  With several products to choose from, there is sure to be something for everyone. The fall product sale provides an average return to Scouting of nearly 70%. Units receive a 30% commission on the sale and the members earn prizes based on their sale.  In addition, prizes are awarded to the top three sellers council wide and the top seller in each district.

In addition to the funds that are raised by units, the Allohak Council benefits from the sale.  After paying all product invoices, prizes and other product sale support expenses, the Council will receive approximately 30% for program delivery.

Studies show that eight out of ten households will purchase one or more items from a Scout and that only 14% of households are asked to support Scouting through their purchase of Camp Master Gourmet Popcorn.  Scouts can expect to average $100 per hour in sales.

Spring Product Sales – Nuts for Scouting

Special Events

Each district in the Allohak Council will host a special event to generate funds for delivery of the Scouting program to youth.  Special events are golf tournaments, sporting clays events, and other activities that provide vital funds to Scouting while providing a social outlet and direct benefit to the contributor. Look for these events onour Events Tab or via Facebook.

Project Sales

Also known as “gifts in kind” project sales is the “selling” of a budgeted item to a sponsor.  Project sales come in the form of direct cash gifts for a specific budget relieving purpose or the donation of the budget item.  For example, the Allohak Council uses a lot of copy paper.  A donor could sponsor copy paper either by purchasing the paper or donating the cash to purchase the paper.
