2012 DAVIS ANDERSON MEMORIAL PINEWOOD DERBY
Cub Scout Pinewood Derby Results
The Allohak Council of the Boys Scouts of America held their 40th Annual Davis Anderson Memorial Pinewood Derby
on Saturday, February 4, 2012, hosted by the Grand Central Mall. Everyone had a great time. 420 Scouts were
registered for the event and approximately 344 Cub Scouts raced for this event. Over 100 volunteers helped in
the preplanning of this double elimination event and on race day. The Davis Anderson Memorial race is for the
Council championships of the Allohak Council. The Allohak Council consists of 17 counties. Fifteen counties are
in WV and two counties in Ohio. Attendance was up over 125 racers and 9 more packs from last year.
Registration began at 9am and the first races of the day started at 10:00 am and ran continuously all day on
5 separate Derby tracks throughout the Mall. The final 10 racers squared off for the Allohak Council finals at
5pm on Track A at Center court

The Order of the Arrow car raced by Travis O’dell.
Mayor David Nohe took Second.
Kathy Anderson Wise of the Pinewood Derby Committee took third.
Also racing in the Mayor Celebrity racer were Smokey the Bear, The Chik-fil-a Cow, Jason Wharton, Alan Haught,

This year the PWD saw many WV cars with an Orange bowl twist, R2D2 and may other creative designs. Creativity in car
design was outstanding at this year’s event
The Pinewood Derby requires racing participants to work with their families and packs to learn the crafts necessary
to make the individuals cars, the rules that must be followed in the car making, the racing process and most important
sportsmanship. This has to do with how the Scout acts and behaves while participating in the Derby process. This event
is not just about winning, but also how to be a good winner and loser and spending quality time with your friends and
family and most importantly—having fun!
Nationally, each year over one million boys and parents team up to participate in a Pinewood Derby. Working with their
families they carve their cars out of standardized kits, decorate the cars, weigh the cars, and adjust the cars and
finally race the cars. This partnership of parents and son working on the car has become a symbol of the event success.
Locally over 1,000 boys and their families participate in this event each year.
Date for the 2013 Pinewood Derby Council Championships will be on Saturday, February 2, 2013 at the Grand Central Mall.
